A consumer survey of 210 respondents, not a national census. It shows what mushroom eaters in the sample said, not what every household in India does.

What is not published

A species-wise split of national production in tonnes is not given in these reports: the Directorate publishes one national total for all mushrooms. The species figures on this page are consumption, from the survey named above.

For scale: button mushroom is grown on about 600 hectares in the country (2023). ICAR-DMR Annual Report 2024, page 11.
